PE Days

We will be doing PE every Tuesday and Wednesday so please ensure PE kits are in school.

For outdoor PE you will need to make sure you have your outdoor PE kit in school, trainers, black jogging bottoms, your purple Heathwood top and a black jumper. We also recommend you bring a pair of socks so if we get wet and muddy then you don’t have to spend the rest of the day with soggy feet!

For indoor PE you will need a pair of black shorts and your purple Heathwood top.

We complete our daily mile on the running track every day, therefore we ask that a pair of trainers be left in school at all times.

PE kit will be sent home every Friday to be washed.

 Reading at home

Please read with your child at least three times at home each week, we cannot stress the importance of this and the difference it truly makes. We encourage you to support your child’s reading by spending time listening to them read, reading to them, talking about what you have just read and, most importantly, enjoying reading! We want your child to love reading, so please enjoy reading books of their own choosing as well as those from the school reading scheme.

In class we aim to listen to your child read as often as possible and we encourage reading across the curriculum! I will hear all children read on a weekly basis during their Guided Reading session and I will also check children’s diaries and award house points for reading at home at this time (3 times per week = 10HP, more than 3 times = 20HP).

When you read with your child please record it in their diary, any reading can be recorded, not just their school book and they will be rewarded with house points, praise and stamps! Remember – children can take responsibility for recording their own reading in their diary (please can an adult sign or initial this off).

Due to COVID-19, reading books will only be allocated on Mondays and ALL books must be returned to School on Friday.

Spellings

We will have a weekly spelling lesson every Friday and your child’s weekly spelling words will be written their Green Spelling Books. At home children should use their Green Spelling Book to practise their spellings twice, in the sections labelled ‘Try 1’ and ‘Try 2’. Please support your child to look, say, cover, write and check. We will award house points to children who have been practising their spellings at home.

Lexia

Lexia is an interactive resource which supports children with their Reading and Spelling. Children will have two designated Lexia slots per week. Please ensure that your child has headphones in school, as these are vital for concentration and help them to focus on the activities.

Times tables

Your child should be secure in their 2, 5 and 10x tables from their learning in key stage 1. In year 3 we build on this by learning their 3 and 4x tables. We will complete daily counting using the counting stick and children will regularly use the Kurios to work on their fluency. Extra practise of time tables and counting at home will be incredibly beneficial for your child!  (Remember to learn both the multiplication and division facts).

At home

Your child has access to Education City, Purple Mash and Lexia at home! Please feel free to go onto these sites for fun games, activities and learning tools that can support your child across the curriculum. Login details are available in your child’s diary. If you experience problems accessing this, please let us know.

Trips & Visitors

In Class 3 we try to arrange as many trips and visitors as we can, as it really helps bring the children’s learning to life.  However, this year the safety of your children is the most important thing and we will do our best to hopefully sort out some dates for later in the year.

Our Legoland trip which was postponed last academic year has currently been moved to the 25th March 2021 if all goes well! Fingers crossed! (you have already paid for this).

Furthermore, if all goes well we are hoping to go on a 1 night residential to Caldecotte Experience in Milton Keynes in the Summer Term. This is provisionally booked for Thursday 15th and Friday 16th July. We will let you know the details later on in the year.

Details, including prices for all trips, will be provided in plenty of notice.

As always, if there is anything you need to discuss, please feel free to note a message in your child’s diary and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Thank you for your continued support.
