Class 4 News
Dear Parents/Carers
Welcome to Class 4 - I hope your son/daughter is pleased to be back at school and looking forward to the year ahead, and their final year at Heathwood!
Reading
In class we will aim to listen to your child read on a regular basis. However, it would be much appreciated if you could also hear your child read at home. Just five or ten minutes a night would make a great contribution to your child's reading ability. Please ensure your child understands what they are reading and remember to make a note in their ‘Reading Record'.
PE
This half-term PE lessons will take place on Monday and Thursday, therefore please ensure your child has the correct PE kit in school on these days (white shorts, white t-shirt and plimsolls). We will be aiming to have an outdoor PE session on a Thursday, therefore when the weather turns colder they may wish to wear tracksuits bottoms, a fleece/jumper and trainers. Swimming will commence again in the spring term.
Homework
Each week the children will be set one piece of English and one piece of Maths homework. It is not expected that the children spend more than half an hour on each piece. The Numeracy homework this term will be a maths game for your child to play. The games will be sent out every Thursday and must be returned the following Tuesday. This will enable Mrs Healy and I to check all contents are correct before re-allocating them to another child. Maths games can increase children's confidence in mental maths as well as consolidating mathematical concepts they are learning in class. I hope the children will enjoy playing the games and would greatly appreciate any feedback from you as parents.
Occasionally the children may be given additional homework based around other subjects that are being covered in class. For example, the children will be asked to produce a project relating to the history topic being covered in class. This term's topic is World War Two and the children will be given further details about the project over the next few weeks. Your child will be given the opportunity to decide upon the particular area on which they wish to focus within the themed topic of World War Two.
Further details about the topics and work being covered this term in Class 4 can be found in the Curriculum Pamphlet.
Our class trip this term will be to Holdenby House near Northampton and will take place on the 6th October; further information will be sent out nearer the time. In the meantime we will be making gas mask boxes and it would be appreciated if children could each bring in a small box (tea bag boxes are ideal).
We also have a faith tour arranged to support the children's understanding in Religious Education which will take place in November; Further details to follow.
If you have any concerns about your son/daughter or any questions/queries then please feel free to call into class after school and speak to me.
Many thanks
Mrs. Wright
